Gabriel Venzago

Gabriel Venzago has been Chief Conductor of the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz since January 2023. Highlights of his very busy 2022/23 season include guest engagements with orchestras such as the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock, the Münchner Philharmoniker, the Staatsphilharmonie Nürnberg, the Nürnberger Sinfoniker, the Münchner Rundfunkorchester, the Sinfonieorchester Basel and the Musikkollegium Winterthur. At the Salzburger Landestheater, he conducts new productions of Mozart's »La finta giardiniera« and a new semi-staged interpretation of Haydn's »Schöpfung« as well as performances of Tchaikovsky's »Iolanta«. In 2021, Gabriel Venzago caused a stir, attracted a great deal of attention and media coverage when he stepped in for a new production of »Idomeneo« at the Bayerische Staatsoper. As a guest conductor, he has worked with the Brandenburger Symphonikern, the Staatsorchester Darmstadt, the Jenaer Philharmonie, the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Staatsorchester Rheinische Philharmonie and the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen.
Gabriel Venzago began his career as a répétiteur, conductor and assistant to General Music Director Florian Ziemen at the Theatre for Lower Saxony in Hildesheim and then moved to the Mecklenburg State Theatre in Schwerin as Kapellmeister. Among other things, he was responsible for the new production of »Neues vom Tage« by Paul Hindemith. He also conducted symphony concerts and took on various post-conducting duties for all current productions. Born in Heidelberg, the conductor studied at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich and at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Stuttgart. During his studies, he worked as a répétiteur and musical assistant at the Baden-Baden Easter Festival, received a scholarship from the Deutsche Bank Foundation »Akademie Musiktheater heute« and conducted his first opera performances at the Wilhelma Theatre in Stuttgart.
