Ludwig van Beethoven: Symphony no. 1 C Major op. 21

Concert
Alter Saal
Direction and Moderation

Ludwig van Beethoven's first symphony was written in 1799 and premiered one year later. It’s composed in C Major, a key that, according to the First Viennese School, stands for enlightenment and a new start. The start of his symphonic compositions marked the beginning of what would become the main part of Beethoven's compositional work. Length, scoring and style of Beethoven’s first are still reminiscent of Haydn and Mozart. Nevertheless, Beethoven already demonstrates his very idiosyncratic manner with musical elements such as motives and form.

With »BEEEEEEEEEthoven!« you can enjoy all nine of Beethoven’s symphonies as a cycle spaced over two seasons: The season 2024/25 will see the performance of the first four symphonies, the following season will comprise another four, culminating in the grand finale of his 9th symphony as Philharmonic Concert.

Make sure you don't miss out on the Beethoven cycle for the season 2024/25 with our General Music Director Mino Marani. Subscribe for EUR 48 and save 35% compared to individual tickets. Find more information here.
