Lea-ann Dunbar

Soprano Lea-ann Dunbar began the 2023/24 season as Feldmarschallin in »Der Rosenkavalier« at the Staatstheater Cottbus. She then returned to the Semperoper Dresden at the beginning of 2024, where she sang the role of the Falcon in a new production of »Die Frau ohne Schatten«. At the beginning of 2023, she was already heard in Dresden as Woglinde, daughter of the Rhine, in Wagner's »Der Ring des Nibelungen« under the direction of Christian Thielemann. She also made her Wagner debut with the role of Woglinde at the Bayreuth Festival in summer 2022. Lea-ann Dunbar developed a fascination for the expressive possibilities of the voice at a young age. As a member of the ensemble at the Hildesheim Theatre and the Krefeld-Mönchengladbach Theatre, Lea-ann Dunbar had the opportunity to test her vocal abilities. For her portrayal of Mimi in »La bohème«, she was nominated as "Young Singer of the Year" in the magazine Opernwelt. After several seasons as a permanent cast member, Lea-ann Dunbar decided to set her own priorities as a freelance singer. In her artistic work, Lea-ann Dunbar always seeks truthfulness and emotional depth. The simple intimacy of an Agathe is just as much a part of her dramatic range as the ecstasy and fragility of a Violetta or the rapture of a Lucia. In all her roles, it is important to her to bring out the humanity behind the larger-than-life characters. Her powerful voice, sparkling colouratura, noble timbre and acting credibility are repeatedly praised by the press.
