Katharine Mehrling

Katharine Mehrling is at home in a wide variety of musical genres. Growing up in a small village near Frankfurt am Main, she felt drawn to the big metropolises attracted to the big metropolises at an early age. Her path led her to New York acting school, her theatre debut at the Old Vic Theatre in London's West End, to Paris and finally to Berlin. In 2016, she was awarded the BZ Culture Prize »Berliner Bär« for her »extraordinary radiance in the Berlin cultural scene«.
She devotes herself to her love of jazz and French chanson in her concerts and on several of her CDs. With her Katharine Mehrling is a regular guest at the »Bar jeder Vernunft« with her solo shows and and works with various philharmonic orchestras and big bands. In honour of Edith Piaf's 100th birthday, she gave two gala concerts with the orchestra of the Komische Oper, in the presence of Piaf's last composer Charles Dumont (»Non, je ne regrette rien«). In collaboration with the jazz clarinettist Rolf Kühn she produced her album »Am Rande der Nacht« with her own songs in the Hansa Studios and released the Berlin anthem »Straßen von Berlin« (feat. Paul Hankinson and the German Film Orchestra Babelsberg). In December 2023, Katharine Mehrling was invited by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to sing for the Belgian royal couple Queen Mathilde and King Philippe at Schloss Bellevue. Her double CD »Werner Richard Heymann - Leben und Lieder« (produced by the Akademie der Künste, MEHRlingMUSIK and RBB Kultur, published by Schott Music) has been nominated for the »Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik 2024«. She is currently in the Brecht evening »Fremder als der Mond« (director: Oliver Reese, musical director: Adam Benzwi) at the Berliner Ensemble and as Roxie Hart in »Chicago« at the at the Komische Oper in the Schillertheater.
